The GastroGays, return to Harvest to host two special events! Russell James Alford and Patrick Hanlon are a blogging and broadcast duo, whose passions are food, travel and Eurovision in equal measure! They develop recipes and write features about products, trends, and restaurants, appear regularly on radio and TV, and their new podcast “Chew the Fat” is addictive listening!
A VIKING FEAST AT WALSH’S BAKEHOUSE
Having spent 6 weeks in Sweden earlier this year, the GastroGays will tie in Waterford’s over 1,000 year old Viking heritage with Scandinavian influence into a very special lunch event. Expect a showcase of Scandinavian cuisine with a Waterford twist, discover new dishes and new flavours, all using the best of local Waterford produce, and championing the mighty blaa, along with all of Walsh’s Bakehouses’ products.
There’ll be recipe demo’s, followed by a Viking feast, served family style on communal tables. Some of the dishes you might expect include gravadlax (cured salmon), smorrebrod (open sandwiches), soppa, meatballs and for dessert – princesstarta, the wow dish of Sweden. Patrick and Russell, with Walsh’s Bakehouse, might even attempt to make a “semblaa”, a combination of the traditional Swedish bun, a semla with our very own blaa!
Spaces for this event will be limited, so booking is essential.

GASTROGAYS LUNCH DEMO
The GastroGays will also appear at the Taste of Dawn Meats Tent on Sunday to continue their Scandinavian theme into an inspired lunch demo, featuring products from Dawn Meats and Walsh’s Bakehouse full lunch range. Their passion and expertise is food led travel, so no doubt the boys will also share some great foodie stories from their travels around Scandinavia.
Hugely entertaining, and very informative, Patrick and Russell will take you, step by step, through various dishes from the Viking Feast, so you can, host the perfect lunch at home.
